The Calliope Rag
(CONCERT BAND, GRADE 3) This catchy classic rag is a real toe-tapper! Perfect light fare for outdoor concerts, it's a crowd-pleaser and fun to play.
James Scott (1885-1938) is regarded as one of the most important composers of classic ragtime music, along with Scott Joplin and Joseph Lamb. “The Calliope Rag” was composed around 1906 but was lost for decades until researcher Robert Darch recovered it from the composer’s family. Scott’s sister said her brother performed it on the steam calliope at Lakeside Park in St. Charles, Missouri.
